Salt Dough Activity Idea!

Salt dough is a great activity that gets to be done in stages. I love an activity that gets to combine multiple skills and keeps children engaged in different steps. Salt Dough is great for making festive decorations or handprints of your child’s hands.

Salt Dough

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 cup of water

Salt Dough

Step 1

Mix the salt in the water until it dissolves. Then add it slowly to the flour. This is a great activity to encourage children to learn practical skills in the kitchen and practice their circle marks while stirring,

Step 2

Mould and shape the dough. This can be used similarly to Play Dough. Great for building fine motor skills and creativity.

Step 3

Let it dry. Salt dough can be left to air dry, however, if you don’t have the patience for that you can dry it in an oven at 120 C for approx hrs (Will depend on the thickness of your dough).

Step 4

Paint or decorate it. Poster paint, glitter, texta and paint stick all work well. Some paints will make it a little soggy again, you’ll just need to let it dry a little longer if so.
