Managing Money Together!

We’re a big believer in teaching children about managing money as early as possible and over the summer is the perfect time for learning about saving, spending and managing money as a family!

Let’s face it, our kids often think we hold unlimited amount of money on that plastic card we carry around. It doesn’t help that we’re using cash less so children don’t see the value of money a lot these days.

During the summer holidays, it can feel like the costs are racking up in terms of days out, meals and activities. It’s hard to communicate to our kids that things cost money and that often we need to be savvy with our money!

So here are our top tips for learning about money management with the whole fam this summer!

For kids….

☀️ For kids 6 years and up we thoroughly recommend the GoHenry app and pre paid card.

GoHenry Prepaid debit cards are slightly different from traditional debit cards and offer even more account benefits. They are not connected to a current account and can be used to teach your children important life lessons about money management and budgeting. They also give you more control over your children’s spending habits.

With a prepaid debit card, parents can also:

  • Set limits on their child’s spending, including where they can spend their money and what they can buy
  • Monitor their children’s spending
  • Set tasks that their children need to complete
  • Credit the card with birthday and Christmas money, pocket money and money earned from chores

Most major retailers accept children’s debit cards and prepaid debit cards. There’s also no overdraft facility, so there’s no risk that your child will spend beyond their means.

We’ve partnered with GoHenry to give you £10 and 1 month free when you activate your account here using code LEARNERS

☀️ Use pocket money to help develop budgeting skills! Encourage your child to work out the costs of things at the local shop or give them a budget to work with to help them learn about managing money.

☀️ TopCashback

It’s really simple. Every time you click through and purchase something from one of the 4,000 major retailers featured on TopCashback, the retailer pays us a commission for referring you to their website. We pass 100% of this commission back to you as ‘cashback’.

All you have to do is sign up – it is 100% free to join, find the retailer you want to buy from and click through, and then shop online with your chosen retailer as you normally would. Click here to join via our referral link here and receive £10 free cashback.

Once we receive our commission from the retailer, we’ll pass this onto you via your TopCashback account so you can withdraw it to spend.

☀️ Free Meals During Summer

With budgets tight this year, we’ve found the restaurants, cafés and pubs nationwide where parents, grandparents and carers can feed their young ones for free. Check out the BBC good food’s list of eateries offering to feed children for free this summer, as well as £1 deals here.

For Little Learners…

☀️ Many of our franchisees offer sibling discounts when booking classes or events! If you are bringing lots of Little Learners to a class, make sure you speak to your class leader in advance to see if they can help!
