Playdough – an easy Halloween Activity

Playdough – the answer to your prayers!

Is the October half term stretching before you – you’re not sure what to do to keep your little one occupied and you are trying to save for Christmas at the same time?

Panic not! Why not set up this simple playdough activity – it will definitely keep them occupied for a while….and I tend to find that playdough is the type of activity that they return to again and again – win win!

What to do

Display your materials however you like – next to a pumpkin/with some play spiders/on a Halloween plate and challenge your child/ren to make their own spider!

It doesn’t matter whether the spider has 2 legs or 20 (although you could encourage accurate counting to 8 if you wanted to), the intention is to get those fingers moving in the playdough and have some fun! Why don’t you have a spider making competition – will Daddy make the best spider? Granny? Or someone else?

Did you know?

Playdough is a brilliant material to help develop muscles in your hand – crucial for children’s writing development. By squeezing, pinching and rolling, they will build up the muscles they need to hold and control a pencil later on in life. Best of all, playdough is an activity that lots of children enjoy because of the sensory experience – don’t forget you can always add scents and flavourings to playdough to make even more of this.

Have a wonderful half term break and enjoy the Halloween fun – don’t forget to check out what sessions your local Little Learners leader might have on too!
